Introduction

In Every Age a war covers the Northern Kingdom...

but this war is different

The citizens of the Northern Kingdom have been fighting the darkness for almost two thousand years, battles springing up throughout the Ages.  The wars covered the land in shadows, darkness threatening to destroy all that was good.  Only once had the Northern Kingdom been ruled by darkness.  It was then that the title Dragon was first used, naming the two who fought the darkness and brought good back into the land.

Now, seven hundred years later, a new evil is threatening the safety of the Northern Kingdom.  Known as the Warlord, he uses the blackest of magic.  To ensure the loyalty of the cities he conquers, the Warlord binds the men and women to him with this black magic, forcing their eternal loyalty.  The Warlord has few enemies and it seems as if his conquest of the Northern Kingdom will go unhindered.  Unless the two who were prophesized to save the world from Evil are found, the Warlord will begin another age of Darkness.

As war brews in the south, Janevra, the nineteen year old heir to the Throne of Caendor, is ready to take her place as Queen.  She has been trained throughout her life to be a great ruler.  She has been taught how to lead soldiers into battle and how to rule in good times and bad.  Her education extended far into areas women in Caendor do not study.  By order of her mother, Janevra was instructed in the arts of the sword and grew to become a master swordswoman.  She is ready to rule.  But her parents insist she marries before she takes the throne, a marriage she does not want.

Mat Trakall, a farmer living outside the city of Jariran, travels for the first time to the city.  Gazing in wonder at the magnificence of Jariran, Mat is pushed over by an escaping thief.  In the wrong place at the wrong time, Mat is accused of theft.  He faces a severe penalty.  But his fate won’t be decided by just anyone.  The royal family judges the innocence of a man and Mat is brought before them.  There he gazes upon the infamous beauty of the Princess of Caendor and knows his destiny is intertwined with hers forever.

On the outskirts of the Lost Mountains, Qwaser, a young elven lord, suffers through his exile.  For disobeying the law and speaking with a human, he was sentenced to five years of exile.  He knows a war is coming, a war that will decide whether the Northern Kingdom lives in Light or Darkness.  Qwaser knows this and he knows he must fight in that war.  Unbeknownst to him, the war is already at his doorstep.

Deivenada, an Edieata Ile and member of the elite warrior class the Tar-ten, is fighting for the survival of her people.  On the night she was away from the village, her village was attacked and destroyed by minions of Evil.  Certain the attackers will destroy the other villages, Deivenada must race against time.  She must reach the other villages and warn them of the coming horde of Evil.

Heroes and villains arise across the Northern Kingdom, proclaiming their allegiance to Good or Evil.  Powers gather on each side as nations choose their leaders.  Some nations move too slowly and are swallowed by the Warlord’s armies.  Others refuse to join either side and are crushed under Evil’s great power.  Few are strong enough to withstand the Warlord alone.  Will the two who are prophesied to save the Northern Kingdom from Evil be found in time?  Or will the Northern Kingdom fall into shadows that are darker than the night?
